Did you see “The Social Network” movie? It’s not a good movie but I mention it for two reasons. The ex Napster boss tells a story about a guy who sold Victoria Secret for 50 thousands bugs or so two years before the make achieved 50 million dollars value. Funny, isn’t it? But there is other issue.
Facebook was called “The Facebook” at the beginning. Advice from the movie: “Leave the ‘the’, just Facebook, it is cleaner”. And this is the reason why I use ‘Victoria Secret’ name instead of the correct version ‘Victoria’s Secret’. There are about ten thousands more searches in Google for ‘Victoria Secret’ than for ‘Victoria’s Secret’. Of course from the linguistic point of view it makes no sense, but… who cares about linguistic? The global market has chosen a simplified version of the label. We are Chinese, all of us.
Tankinis are a little bit disappointing. One expects more from the bigger global player. On the other hand they focus on more sexy swimsuits, on glamour. On their website there are only sixteen variants of tankini. At the end of the article you’ll find a choice of 6 of them. I’ve chosen the most interesting cuts or the most interesting design patterns.
I’ve seen a lot of nicer VS tankinis on pics published in the net but many of them come from shows, impossible to buy them online. You can watch Adriana Lima in a crazy tankini, but this tankini is not for you, and you are not Adriana Lima, probably, what complicates the issue a little bit.
It’s a genius name: Victorias Secret. A secret woman’s treasure, the place of our birth and of our first shout. And this “V” as a symbol of vagina of course, if you weren’t aware of the meaning. I’d attribute the success of VS partly to the very name. It’s sexual meaning is strong, and obvious. Victory of the Mysterious Vagina is a long form of it. Words are more interesting than secrets behind them, sometimes.
My private opinion about VS tankinis is that this swimwear is over valuated. The glory of the make blinds us and we see beautiful women in amazing swimwear whereas they are girls next door wearing ordinary bikini swimsuits actually.
